J. Nouraei & M. Mostafavi Law Offices – 4 May 2025-Tehran-Under Iranian law, until now, the courts have issued inheritance certificates based on the heirs’ requests to identify the heirs and the likely executor of any will and determine the heirs’ shares of the estate (legacy) of the deceased. If the heirs accepted the estate, they had to carry out tasks such as paying the relevant taxes to acquire the assets the deceased person left.
The Minister of Justice has now announced that the National Civil Registration Organization will automatically and directly carry out this task from the Mordad month of 1404 (23 July 2025). The basis for this action is Article 113 of the Seventh Five-Year Development (progress) Plan of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
