What is a patent?

A patent is essentially a government grant to a person for the exclusive right to make, use, and sell his new innovation or invention which according to Article 1 of the law may solve specific problems of professions, techniques, technology, industry and the like. Industry entails a broad scope of activities and among other areas also includes fields such as handicrafts, agriculture, fishery and services.

Is applying for a patent obligatory?

No, it is not. But, obtaining of a patent gives the owner (patentee) the right and assurance to use it freely and take legal action for preventing others from exploiting the patented invention without his consent.
